It is sanitizing the ducts of the tooth roots with specific tools to remove irritants and diseased tissue from within. Followed by sealing them with a material designed for that purpose.

 

When is it done?

when there is an extensive caries affecting the pulp tissue (nerve), or other disease process
affecting that nerve can cause pain and / or infection.
